Subaru Has Safest Vehicles of 2019 - Bert Ogden Subaru - Edinburg, TX

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety evaluates vehicles every year to determine which are the safest. For a long time, its Top Safety Pick was the highest honor a vehicle could earn, but in recent years, IIHS created the Top Safety Pick+ to provide evaluations of automatic braking systems and headlights.

For 2019, Subaru came away with the most wins because of its continued commitment to safety with features like Siri EyesFree and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. In total, seven of its vehicles earned the Top Safety Pick+ distinction while one other earned the Top Safety Pick award. That's a huge achievement considering the brand does not have as many vehicles as automakers like Chevy or Toyota, which Subaru outdid.

The vehicles to win the Top Safety Pick+ honor are the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek2019 Subaru Outback2019 Subaru Ascent2019 Subaru Impreza sedan, 2019 Subaru Impreza wagon, 2019 Subaru Legacy, and 2019 Subaru WRX. The 2019 Subaru Forester earned the sole Top Safety Pick honor. Only 57 vehicles in total earned a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ distinction for 2019, and domestic automakers were noticeably absent.

To earn the Top Safety Pick+ distinction, the 30 winners (including seven from Subaru) had to achieve the highest rating during testing for passenger-side protection in the institute's small overlap front crash test. They also had to have highly rated headlights. In addition, they needed to earn top scores in the five standard crashworthiness evaluations, which include small overlap front (driver-side), moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. The Forester was very close to meeting these criteria but ultimately earned the second-highest rating for its headlights, which held it back from joining the likes of the new Ascent, the Outback, the Impreza, and the others as a Top Safety Pick+.

If you desire a safe vehicle for your family, there's clearly only one choice: an IIHS-honored Subaru from Bert Ogden Subaru in Edinburg.
